Two people To Appear In Bail Court This Morning
51-year old Linda Karchie of 3-760 Wellington Street East was arrested yesterday morning and charged with one count of break and enter and commit an offence, one count of threaten to cause death or bodily harm and two counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused attended at the residence of a female in the 700 block of Wellington Street East yesterday and began to kick on the victim’s door and also threatened to harm the victim. It is alleged that the accused than kicked open the door of the victim’s address and assaulted the victim by grabbing her by the arms and scratching her. The victim and accused are known to each other.
A 36-year old male was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with 4 counts of breach of a release order. It is alleged that on yesterday morning the accused attended at the address of his ex-girlfriend and spoke to her. He was on two orders not to communicate with the female. Officers arrested the accused later in the day and noted that the accused had been drinking. The accused was on a release order not to consume alcohol. The accused also allegedly failed to notify his change of address as required on his release document.
Impaired Driving
Last evening shortly before 9 pm officers from Investigation Services observed a vehicle driving in an erratic manner eastbound on Second Line West. Officers observed the vehicle ride up on the snow bank several times as well as swerving before they were able to stop the vehicle on Wellington Street West. Officers noted that the accused had a strong odor of alcohol on them. A 17-year old youth was arrested and charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of consume over the legal limit and one count of breach of probation. The youth will appear in court on April 4th.
Undercover Officer Catches 36-Yr Old In The Act
36-year old James Welvaert of 320 Albert Street West was arrested and charged with a number of offences. It is alleged that last evening the accused sold 4.5 grams of marijuana to a plain clothed member of the Joint Forces Drug Unit. The incident occurred in the downtown area. The street value of the narcotics is estimated at $90. When officers queried the accused they found that he was wanted on warrants for one count of fail to appear in court, one count of fraud in relation to fare and one count of breach of probation. The accused was also charged with one count of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and one additional count of breach of probation. The accused will appear in court on April 3rd.
High School Liason Officer Arrests Youth
A 15-year old youth was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime by one of the High School Liaison Officers. It is alleged that the accused stole a Sony MP3 player, a jacket and a cell phone from a locker in one of the east end high schools on February 9th. Officers located the cell phone on the 21st of February in the possession of the accused. The youth will appear in court on April 4th.
Motor Vehicle Collision
Last evening just after 7 pm City Police attended in the 1300 block of Queen Street East for a motor vehicle collision that sent 5 persons to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A van operated by 44-year old Rhonda Tubman of 70 East Street was driving westbound on Queen Street East when her van collided with a car that was legally parked on the road. Rhonda Tubman, and her 4 passengers were taken by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital. Passengers included 25-year old Jennifer Farrell of 525 Northland Road, two small children and an infant. Both vehicles received moderate damage. Rhonda Tubman has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of careless driving.
