Body Identified
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service continue to secure the scene in the downtown area where a body was located in the snow bank yesterday during the noon hour. Last evening the body was identified as that of missing person Rita Vannini, age 49. Next of kin was notified last evening. Mrs. Vannini’s last known address had been the Algonquin Hotel located at Queen Street East and Pim Street. Officers from the Forensic Unit and Investigation Services are continuing their investigation.
Youth Charged with Resisting Arrest
Yesterday around 12 noon a 16-year old youth was arrested in the central area of town after the youth attended at a local high school to fight a student who went the school. The youth left the immediate area of the school after observing the High School Liaison officer in the area. When approached by the officer the youth refused to identify themselves and began to yell and swear at the officer. As the officer went to arrest the youth, the youth kept trying to break away from the officer and resisting being handcuffed. The youth has been charged with one count of cause a disturbance by swearing and one count of resist arrest. The youth will appear in court on April 19th.
Male Charged with Sexual Assault
Shortly after midnight City Police attended at an east end address in regards to a domestic dispute. It is alleged that the 27-year old accused attempted to sexually assault his ex-girlfriend when she attended at the address to pick up some of her belongings. The victim did not require medical treatment at the time of the incident. The accused has been charged with one count of sexual assault and will appear in court on April 19th.
Break and Enter
Yesterday City Police received 3 reports of break and enters. The first one was reported yesterday morning just after 9 am. Suzanne’s Dezigns and Hair Clinic located at 131 Bruce Street was entered and ransacked. It is unknown what was taken at this time or home much damage occurred. A home in the 400 block of Second Line West was entered during the evening hours of the 28th of March and it is unknown what was taken at this time. A home in the 100 block of Henrietta was broken into yesterday during the daytime and thieves made off with jewellery, old coins, a motocross jersey as well as motocross pants.
