Youth Charged with Assault

Yesterday afternoon a young person in custody at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre was charged with Assault and Breach of Probation. It is alleged that the youth assaulted a Corrections Officer by punching him and grabbing him by the shirt. At the time of this office the youth was on a Probation Order to Keep the Peace and be of Good Behaviour. The youth will be appearing in Bail Court today at 10:00 AM.

Accused ThreatensCommon-law Girlfriend with a Baseball bat

Early yesterday evening City Police were called to an address in the east end of the city regarding as domestic complaint. Upon arrival officers spoke to the complainant and subsequently arrested a 47-year-old male. It is alleged that the accused threatened his common-law girlfriend with a baseball bat. As a result the accused was charged with 2 counts of Threatening. He will be appearing in Bail Court today at 10:00 AM.

Breach of Probation

Yesterday afternoon police officers were investigating a person known and discovered that the person was wanted for outstanding warrants. As of the police investigation 31-year-old Heather Rivers, of 536 A Goulais Ave. Apt 301, was arrested for: 2 Counts of Breach of Probation, Fail to Stop for Police and Dangerous Driving. Ms. Rivers will be appearing in Bail Court today at 10:00 AM.

Highschool Altercation

At about 12:00 noon yesterday City Police were called to an east end high school in regards to an altercation. Upon arrival officers were informed that a student at that school was knocked to the ground and then assaulted by another student. As a result of the accused was charged with assault and will be appearing in court on Tues. Nov. 15th at 9:30 AM.


Break and Enter

City Police are investigating an attempted Break and Enter that occurred at an address in the 100 block of Tancred. St. In the incident unknown person(s) attempted to enter a garage by prying at the side door window covering. Entry was not gained.

Police are also investigating a report of mischief caused by two youths in the 100 block of Blucher St. In the incident two young boys were seen entering rear storage shed, removing a gas can from the shed and then pouring the gas on a fence. The complainant chased off the suspects before they could do any further damage.


Neighbourhood Watch Program

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is happy to announce that the Neighbourhood Watch Program will be starting up again this fall. Officers from the Community Service Branch are requesting members of the public, any previous members and any prevoius Board members to join. The Public is encouraged to join and assist in making this worthwhile program a success.
