Fraud Charges Laid Against Male

Yesterday afternoon officers from the Fraud Unit arrested 53-year old William Hess of 22 Albert Street East and charged him with one count of fraud, one count of uttering a forged document, one count of personation and count of fraud in relation to fare. It is alleged that on August 3rd the accused attended at Sears Travel and purchased a one-way ticket out west using a credit card belonging to a deceased person known to the accused. In addition to the airfare the accused also purchased a limo ride out to the airport using the credit care. Sears Travel realized there was a problem and cancelled the ticket and notified the police. The accused learned there was a problem when he attempted to fly out of the Sault and learned his ticket had been cancelled. The accused was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court for an unrelated matter.

2 Counts of Breach of a Release Document

Just after 4 am this morning neighbours in the 100 block of Princess Crescent called to report a male was going though the vehicles and a witness was following the male. Officers attended in the area and learned that the accused male had gone through a truck in the area. The accused had been consuming alcohol at the time of the incident and was on conditions including not to consume alcohol and abide by an 8 pm to 8 am curfew. 22-year old Paul Firlotte of 97 Adrian Drive will appear in bail court this morning. The accused has been charged with one count of trespass by night, one count of attempt theft, one count of breach of probation and 2 counts of breach of a release document.

Possession of Stolen Property

Just after 3 am this morning City Police attended on Dacey Road down by the river regarding a call of suspicious persons. Officers found 21-year old Kevin Guise of 2-326 Albert Street East in possession of 2 solar lights that had been stolen from an address in the 100 block of Dacey Road. The accused was on probation at the time of the offence with conditions to keep the peace and be good. The accused was in possession of this stolen property with 3 other persons. Mr. Guise has been charged with one count of trespass by night, one count of theft under $5,000, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of breach of probation. He will appear in bail court this morning. 19-year old Candace Bouliane of 2-326 Albert Street East has been charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime and will appear in court on October 17th. 18-year old Mike Peplow of 36 Jefferson Avenue has been charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime and will appear in court on October 24th. A 16-year old youth has been charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime and will appear in court on October 25th.

Drug Bust

Yesterday afternoon officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit and the City Police attended at 421 Town Line Road and executed a search warrant. Officers located 50 marijuana plants and 46.5 grams of marijuana, including 3 grams located on the accused at the time of the arrest. In addition to the drugs officers also located 17 unsafely stored firearms and ammunition, as well as stolen road signs. The estimated street value of the drugs is $25, 924. 57-year old Gerald Paquin of 421 Town Line has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of production of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition, 3 counts of careless use or storage- breach of regulations-firearms, 17 counts of careless use or storage-breach of regulations-firearms, and one count of possession of property obtained by crime. The accused will appear in court on October 17th.

City Police received 4 break and enter reports in the last 24 hours:

1) Yesterday morning a break and enter was reported at Holy Family School on Rushmere Drive. It is unknown what was taken.

2) A homeowner reported that a few days ago someone broke into their home in the 100 block of Adrian Drive, but it is unknown what was taken at this time.

3) A home in the 200 block of Selby Road was entered during the late afternoon -early evening hour yesterday and thieves made off with jewellery, a VCR and a receiver.

4) Just before 2 am this morning thieves broke into the Northern Pipe Office and Shop located at 465 Second Line East and made off with a small undisclosed amount of money.
