Wellington traffic stop turns up cocaine, magic mushrooms

Driver and passenger both face drug-related charges, due back in court Nov. 20

Two people are facing drug-related charges after Sault police conducted a traffic stop on Wellington Street West early Saturday morning.

After pulling over a vehicle at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 2, police say they spotted a dispensary cannabis bag and an open container of alcohol on the floor of the passenger seat. 

A further search of the vehicle turned up 15 grams of magic mushrooms and 37 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $3,730, police say.

The 34-year-old driver and 27-year-old passenger are both charged with possession and possession for the purpose of trafficking. 

Both were released on an undertaking and are scheduled back in court on Nov. 20, 2023.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and both suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
