Woman accused of biting store staff during theft

Police have charged Mary Morine following a theft incident that occurred at a Queen Street East business on Sept. 30.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that the 38-year-old accused took items from the business without paying for them, and bit a staff member as they were attempting to recover the stolen property.

Full text of the release follows:

On Dec. 20, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged 38-year-old Mary Morine with robbery.

On Sept. 30, 2021, [it is alleged that] the accused attended a business in the 400 block of Queen Street East, selected items and left without attempting to pay. Staff followed her out of the store and attempted to retrieve the stolen merchandise. At this time [it is alleged that] the accused bit a victim and fled the area.

Officers responded, and because of the investigation a warrant was requested and issued for her arrest.

She was located on Dec. 20, 2021 and arrested on the strength of the warrant.

She is charged with robbery and assault causing bodily harm. She was held for bail court.
