Sault police have repeatedly warned the public that 911 is for emergencies only.

A local woman is accused of not listening to that warning — again and again.

Police allege that yesterday morning between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., a woman phoned the 911 call centre 11 times and a non-emergency police line on five other occasions.

“The accused was not calling regarding any emergencies,” says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “They were told by a Staff Sergeant to stop but continued to call.”

Officers were dispatched to the location of the calls and arrested a suspect.

Patricia Swanson, 35, is charged with public mischief and failure to comply with a probation order.

She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on August 14, 2023.

None of the allegations against Swanson have been tested in court and she is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
