Youth, 16, charged after attempted break-in at Alworth Place

A 16-year-old faces several charges after police responded to an attempted break and enter near MacDonald Avenue and Pine Street on Friday night.

Just before midnight on Nov. 11, officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police responded to an attempted break-in at Alworth Place.

Upon arriving, officers found a suspect in the backyard of a residence.

Damage had been caused to the residence, but the suspect was unable to gain entry.

The suspect, whose name cannot be published under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and is charged with:

  • attempted break and enter
  • mischief over $5,000
  • trespassing at night
  • two counts of failure to comply with an undertaking

The accused was held in custody pending a weekend and statutory holiday court hearing.
