H.S. McLellan Preschool is a non-profit program licensed by the Ministry of Education offering an inclusive, educational, and developmentally appropriate preschool program. Being part of THRIVE allows HS McLellan to have direct access to Early Learning Resource Consultants, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists and other amazing staff who can support in creating an environment where all children can thrive. Our program is open Monday-Friday with hours between 7:30am and 5:30pm.
We are looking for Supply Preschool Educator’s interested in joining our team. This position is on an on-call, as needed basis – this means that the opportunity to work varies but can also be relatively frequent as our supply staff support with vacation coverages as well as other absences.
Core Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of all individual children in the program.
- Implement the four foundations for learning as outlined in the “How Does Learning Happen?” document into all program planning and development.
- Ensure children are provided with nutritious food that promotes good nutrition, dental health and awareness of special diets and allergies.
- Ensure program equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times; to include general housekeeping such as cleaning and disinfecting of toys, equipment/furniture.
- Develop culturally appropriate programs and activities.
- Plan and provide schedules for indoor and outdoor activities.
- Develop and implement a curriculum that will reflect the most current best practices and recommendations made by all applicable early childhood documents.
- Ensure children are supervised at all times and child/staff ratios are maintained as per the Child Care and Early Years Act.
- Support and follow through with the Mission, Vision Statements and Values of THRIVE and HS McLellan.
- Support and follow through with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the College of Early Childhood Educators / Association of Early Childhood Education.
- Maintain a professional approach when interacting with the parents, staff, visitors and school personnel where applicable.
- Be familiar and respond accordingly with emergency procedures
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education (or working towards), or Diploma in Child and Youth Work or Child and Youth Care with relevant daycare experience.
- Qualifications in a related field may be considered, please email to inquire if your Diploma/Degree would be considered.
- Registered with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators, or registration in process.
- Experience within a daycare or school setting.
- Excellent knowledge of current Child Development Theories and Practices, Early Identification and Intervention and of all Relevant Legislation, Policies and Procedures.
- Knowledge in Observation and Documentation curriculum planning.
- Effective Analytical and Problem Solving Skills.
- Effective Written, Planning, Organizational and Time Management Skills.
- Understanding of the cultural environment and inclusion.
- Team building and leadership skills, and the ability to motivate others.
- Respectful, compassionate, understanding, patient, and honest.
- Current Standard First Aid Certificate and Infant/Child CPR.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
- Current immunization records.

For every dollar you contribute to HOOPP, THRIVE contributes $1.26.
Hourly wage will be determined based on whether you are a registered ECE and/or how much experience you have working as a preschool educator. Additionally, a wage enhancement of approximately $2 / hour will be added to your hourly rate depending on the role you fill.
