Position Overview

The Social Worker functions as a member of the multidisciplinary Hepatitis Care (HEP C) Team providing psychosocial assessment and a range of interventions to assist people infected, affected and/or at risk of contracting Hepatitis C. This role will provide counselling, consultation, education, and advocacy for clients and their families learning to cope with a chronic illness, side effects of potential treatment and social difficulties. The Hepatitis C Social Worker will collaborate and participate in Hepatitis Care Team outreach initiatives to provide counselling and support to the target population in the Algoma District.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work
  • Current registration and membership in good standing with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate may possess:

  • Three to five years of experience in assessment and treatment of individuals with a chronic disease (HEP C), harm reduction, and issues relating to mental health and addictions

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to understand and apply principles of crisis and suicide intervention and critical incident stress debriefing (basic and advanced)
  • Experience in coordinating and participating in community outreach initiatives
  • Solid knowledge and experience with issues affecting marginalized communities
  • Excellent assessment skills and sound clinical judgment
  • Strong commitment to health promotion, community development and adult education
  • Strong orientation towards providing a high level of patient care and support
  • A solid track record of maintain privacy and confidentiality in the workplace
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills to work under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated effort in living the values of GHC

Compensation & Benefits:

$35.23 – $38.18 (commensurate with experience)
