The Florida State football team hopes some home cooking provides their first win of the 2024 college football season tonight against Boston College.
No. 10 FSU is 0-1 after opening with a lackluster 24-21 loss to Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland. Lawrance Toafili and Roydell Williams both ran for touchdowns, but the Seminoles ran for just 98 yards and new quarterback DJ Uiagalelei passed for only 193. Meanwhile, Yellow Jackets quarterback Haynes King and running back Jamal Haynes combined for 139 rushing yards.

FSU was ranked No. 10 in the preseason AP Top 25 after a 13-1 season in 2023 but was upset 24-21 in Ireland by the Yellow Jackets in Week 0. Now the Seminoles will battle a Boston College squad coming off a 7-6 season where it won a bowl game. Head coach Jason Hafley left to become defensive coordinator of the Green Bay Packers and was replaced by Bill O’Brien.
Boston College will welcome back starting quarterback Thomas Castellanos in a new-look offense under O’Brien. Castellanos threw for 2,248 yards and 15 touchdowns, managing just 6.8 yards per attempt last season. He also threw 14 interceptions. However, he did rush for 1,113 yards and 13 more touchdowns. Last week, FSU allowed Georgia Tech to rush for 190 yards as a team.
The Seminoles did not look like a championship team in Ireland last week, producing a paltry 291 yards of total offense on 58 offensive plays. Former Clemson and Oregon State quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei went 19-for-27 for 193 yards in his debut as the FSU starter. Plus, the ‘Noles only averaged 3.2 yards per carry. Will FSU benefit from returning home to Bobby Bowden Field, where Mike Norvell’s offense averaged over 467 yards per game last season?
