I guess I feel like my tendency is to focus on my family’s needs more than mine
One foot in and one foot out - do I go to my favourite hot yoga class? or do I stay at home? for fear I am missing out or that whole house will crumble without me
My boys didn’t understand why their mom needed to leave the house to exercise. To them I could just exercise the basement. Of course, this is when the mom guilt starts creeping in. The inner voice creates a list of the most “valid” reasons to not go.
I would leave the house - kids crying for my husband to manage, dishes pilled up, lunches not made, clothes all over. I ask myself “is it really worth it to go?”
But then, I had a conversation with another mom. She helped me understand that I need to take time for myself. It has nothing to do with being selfish - throw that thought out. Taking care of myself with my hot yoga class allows to show up as a better mom, friend, partner.
This smile in the photo? It’s the one of a woman taking charge of her well-being and took the time to rediscover her joys and passions. She now understands that her “me time” allows her to be the best version of herself.
Just a gentle reminder to all the women out there: taking time for yourself isn’t selfish; it’s essential. Prioritizing your well-being helps you show up as your best self for those you care about.
