The Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation (SSMADC) is reporting that from April through November of this year, passenger traffic is down 90.5 per cent.

A news release issued today by the SSMADC states that 13,609 passengers travelled through the facility.

The past eight months of traffic levels are as follows:

2020-12-09 SSMADC passenger traffic“The recovery in passenger levels has stalled since September. Unfortunately, the Fall Economic Statement did not provide any relief to regional sized airports, which is very unfortunate," said SSMADC president Terry Bos in the release. "Considering the airport will see decreased operational revenue of $2.3 million as well as decreased capital revenue of $1.6 million this fiscal year alone, assistance from government was greatly needed.”

Air Canada Express is flying up to twice daily on weekdays and once daily on weekends.

All Porter Airlines flights are grounded until at least Feb. 11.
