COVID-19: Here's the situation in the Sault today

Latest numbers from Algoma Public Health show 91 people screened for COVID-19; There are now more than 300 positive cases of coronavirus Ontario-wide

On Friday, the federal government announced that it's mobilizing industry in Canada to tackle the COVID-19 crisis by supporting auto part manufacturers and other facets of Canadian industry in the production of medical supplies. 

Canada has also confirmed that it will temporarily restrict all non-essential U.S.- Canada border crossings, which goes into effect 11:59 p.m. Friday, while turning away irregular mirgrants attempting to enter Canada from the U.S. 

In other COVID-19 travel news, The Canadian Press is reporting that more than 5,000 Air Canada employees will be temporarily laid off effectively immediately.

In Sault Ste. Marie, Algoma Public Health confirmed Thursday that COVID-19 test results for a healthcare worker at Sault Area Hospital came back negative.

On Thursday, SooToday reported that 48 stores have been closed in the Station Mall - potentially more - amid COVID-19 concerns. 

PUC announced Thursday that it's extending its disconnection policy into the summer. 

According to Friday morning's running total from Algoma Public Health, 91 people have been tested for COVID-19.

A total of 55 of those tests came back negative, with another 35 test results pending. 

One person has tested positive for COVID-19 in the Algoma District. 

In provincial news, Ontario Premier Doug Ford is encouraging parents and students to utilize online learning materials through a new, 'learn at home' resource guide while schools are closed amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 

As of Friday morning, Public Health Ontario is reporting 308 cases of COVID-19 across the province, an increase of 50 cases from Thursday. 

Two Ontarians have died as a result of COVID-19.
