COVID-19: Here's the situation in the Sault today

Sixth positive case of COVID-19 confirmed by Algoma Public Health; stranded Saultites aboard cruise ship off Florida coast to be repatriated

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canadians are potentially ecouraging the spread of COVID-19 and putting healthcare workers at risk by refusing to stay at home as the number of COVID-19 cases surpassed 10,000 Thursday. 

In local news, Algoma Public Health has confirmed the sixth positive case of COVID-19 in the Algoma District. 

A pair of Sault Ste. Marie residents are among the nearly 250 cruise ship passengers reportedly set to be removed from the MS Zaandam and the Rotterdam after being stranded at sea for nearly a month due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Both vessels are expected to dock in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Thursday.

In provincial news, Premier Doug Ford says some 'stark' COVID-19 projections for worst-case scenarios Ontario will be released Friday, which Ford says could be 'hard' for some people to take. 

Ontario Provincial Police is warning the public of fraudsters looking to capitalize on the COVID-19 pandemic.  

On Thursday, Ontario committed $12 million to mental health supports for the public during the COVID-19 crisis.

It also announced $2.6 million in order to hire mental health supports for members of the Ontario Provincial Police.

Ontario confirmed another 401 postive cases of the coronavirus Thursday morning, bringing the provincial total to 2,793 lab-confirmed cases. 

At least 53 people in Ontario have died from the virus.
