COVID-19: Here's the situation in the Sault today

Canada's chief health officer says curve is flattening; Ontario unveils safety guidelines for businesses re-entering economy

Canada's chief public health officer says the curve is flattening across Canada, but warns the public to curb its enthusiasm and "tighten the safety ropes" while traversing the downside of the epidemic curve. 

Dr. Theresa Tam reports 52,057 cases in Canada, with the first confirmed case of COVID-19 appearing in Nunavut. 

There have been 3,082 deaths attributed to the virus in Canada. 

The positive cases represent 17 per cent of all Canadians tested for COVID-19. 

Indigenous services minister Marc Miller says there's a need to ramp up testing and contact tracing in First Nations after a reported increase in COVID-19 cases on reserve. 

In provincial news Thursday, Ontario reported 459 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19, with a total of 593 recoveries and 86 deaths. 

Ontario Premier Doug Ford introduced sector-specific safety guidelines for businesses looking to re-enter the economy Thursday, which the province says will protect workers, customers, and the general public from COVID-19 as Ontario prepares to gradually re-open the economy. 

More than 60 guidelines released by the province aim to provide direction to those working in manufacturing, restaurant and food service, and other economic sectors.
