COVID-19: Here's the situation in the Sault today

Algoma Public Health has not reported any new COVID-19 cases today; however, six new cases were reported last night , four from the Sault area and two from the central and east Algoma region.

Algoma Public Health has not reported any new COVID-19 cases today; however, six new cases were reported last night, four from the Sault area and two from the central and east Algoma region.

Here are the latest COVID-19 numbers from Algoma Public Health, updated at 1:50 p.m.:

  • 81,156 tested
  • 149 confirmed 
  • 28 active case
  • 0 currently hospitalized
  • 121 resolved
  • 1 deceased

There are currently no active cases in non-Algoma residents temporarily in the region.

According to data on howsmyflattening.ca, a University of Toronto-led website which collects and analyzes data from Ontario's COVID-19 cases, 69 per cent of ICU beds in Algoma Public Health's jurisdiction are currently occupied. There are currently no COVID-19 ICU patients in the Algoma region.

There are no new confirmed cases at area schools or child-care centres.

Total confirmed cases by area of residence: 

  • 127 in Sault Ste. Marie and area, with evidence of community spread
  • 19 in central and east Algoma
  • Three in Elliot Lake and area
  • 0 in north Algoma

Comparatively, in Chippewa County, which covers Sault Ste. Marie Mich. and surrounding area, the COVID-19 data as of Tuesday states:

  • 1,660 cumulative positives
  • 1,236 cumulative recovered
  • 18 deaths
  • Four cases currently hospitalized
