COVID restrictions unchanged after Blind River hospital employee tests positive

Case is the first involving a hospital staff member

After it was reported yesterday that a staff member at the North Shore Health Network (NSHN) Blind River site had tested positive for COVID-19, NSHN Communications Project Manager Melanie Kubatlija told ElliotLakeToday that the case is the first involving a hospital employee.

The staffer is currently self-isolating and close contacts have been notified.

Current restrictions in place at the Blind River site will remain in place unchanged at this time, Kubatlija said.

They include:
    •    Active screening of all patients, visitors, workers and providers Universal masking - all patients and visitors are now provided medical masks when they enter the facilities
    •    Social distancing in common spaces such as waiting rooms, cafeteria, etc.
    •    Scheduled appointments for outpatient services with time allotted for increased cleaning between patients
    •    Visiting policies in accordance with the Provincial Framework Status of the Algoma Public Health Unit
    •    Ongoing surveillance screening in long-term care
    •    New Rapid Antigen Testing for all visitors to the Long-Term Care Unit
    •    Access to COVID-19 Assessment Centres in Blind River and Thessalon
