Error causes over-reporting in province's vaccination update

The province had been reporting double the actual number of people who have received two doses of the vaccine because officials counted doses not people

The province has been carrying over an error in its vaccination reporting to date.

Prior to today, the total indicating what was supposed to be the number of people who received the second dose of the vaccine was actually double what it should have been.

According to the ministry of health, officials misinterpreted the category.

“Rather than provide data on the number of people who have been fully vaccinated (currently two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine), officials inadvertently provided data on the number of doses administered to achieve full vaccination,” said a media relations staffer in an email. “As a result the number of people who have been fully vaccinated is half of what is currently listed.”

Yesterday, the province had reported more than 96,000 “total vaccinations completed.” This morning, the number dropped to 55,286 people and the description changed to “total number of people who have been fully vaccinated,” because of the error correction.

To date, the province reports it has administered 317,240 doses of vaccines against COVID-19.
