Ontario reports 111 new COVID cases today, lowest since March 25

There are now fewer than 2,000 active cases of COVID-19 in the province

Public Health Ontario is reporting 111 new cases of COVID-19 today, which is the lowest number of new cases reported in a day since March 25. 

Ontario has reported between 200 and 640 new cases of COVID every day from March 29 to June 12. 

Eighty-nine of today's reported cases are people aged 20 to 59. 

Testing numbers are at an all-time high with 30,780 tests reported processed in 24 hours according to today's epidemiological report. 

The province reported three more deaths linked to COVID today. One of the deaths was a person between 60 and 79, and two were people over 80. 

The province has reported 2,644 deaths due to COVID since March. 

There have been 34,316 cases of the coronavirus confirmed in Ontario to-date, and 29,754 of those cases are now reported recovered, leaving 1,918 active cases of COVID-19 in the province

According to Public Health Ontario, there have been 5,445 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in long-term care residents and 1,692 deaths.

There are 17 known active cases of the virus in Northern Ontario.

Today's provincial report includes data from Jan. 15 to June 25 and includes the rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 population. Data included on resolved cases and last known confirmed is from each health unit's respective website. The breakdown for Northern Ontario health units is:

• Algoma Public Health - 24 cases, rate of 21 per 100,000 population. All of the cases are resolved.

• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit - 28 cases, rate of 21.6 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 30 cases. Of those, 29 are resolved and there has been one death. There are no known active cases.

• Porcupine Health Unit - 67, rate of 80.3 per 100,000 population. Of the confirmed cases, 57 are resolved and eight people have died. There are two known active cases of the virus. The last positive test was done June 21.

• Public Health Sudbury and Districts - 67 cases, rate of 33.7 per 100,000 population. There are 64 resolved cases and two people have died. There is one known active case.

• Timiskaming Health Unit - 18 cases, rate of 55.1 per 100,000. The last positive tests were done April 28. All of the cases are resolved.

• Thunder Bay District Health Unit - 90 cases, rate of 60 per 100,000 population. There are 84 resolved cases and one person has died. There are five known active cases, three of which are hospitalized.

• Northwestern Health Unit - 36 cases, rate of 41.1  per 100,000 population. There are 27 resolved cases, and 9 active ones.

The Ontario rate of infection per 100,000 population is 230.9.
