Public Health Ontario has reported 2,093 new cases of COVID-19 today.
The province is also reporting 56 deaths in its latest update, including 31 people who were residents at long-term care homes.
The deaths reported today include two people between 40 and 59 years old, 15 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 39 people over the age of 80.
Ontario reports 110 new COVID-related hospitalizations and 15 new admissions to intensive care.
The Jan. 28 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 2,491 new recoveries
- 21,478 active cases, which is down from 21,932 yesterday
- 1,338 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,382 reported yesterday.
- There are 358 COVID patients in intensive care units (down from 377 yesterday) and 276 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 291 yesterday).
- The province reported 64,664 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 3.3 per cent positivity rate, the lowest since Dec. 13.
- There is a backlog of 48,386 tests. To date, 9,495,531 tests have been completed.
- Of the 2,093 cases reported today, 700 are from Toronto, 331 are from Peel, 228 are from York Region, and 53 are from Simcoe-Muskoka
- There are 240 active outbreaks at long-term care homes, 151 at retirement homes and 87 at hospitals.
- Of the cases reported today there are 262 people under 19 years old, 746 people between 20 and 39 years old, 598 people between 40 and 59 years old, 328 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 163 people over the age of 80.
Vaccine update for Jan. 28:
- There were 11,910 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on Jan. 27, up from 9,513 on Jan. 26.
- As of 8 p.m. on Jan. 27, the province reports 317,240 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 262,463 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 234,971 recoveries and 6,014 deaths, of which 3,518 were individuals living in long-term care homes.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 1,765.7 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 107.2 cases per 100,000 people from Jan. 18 to Jan. 24, which is a decrease of 20.2 per cent compared to Jan. 12 to Jan. 18 when the average weekly incidence rate was 134.4 cases per 100,000 people.
In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:
- Algoma Public Health: 152 cases, rate of 132.8 per 100,000 people. There are 15 known active cases.
- North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 185 cases, rate of 142.6 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 187 cases. There are four known active cases.
- Porcupine Health Unit: 239 cases, rate of 286.4 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 241 cases. There are 59 known active cases.
- Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 489 cases, rate of 245.7 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 482 cases. There are 82 known active cases.
- Timiskaming Health Unit: 89 cases, rate of 272.3 per 100,000 people. There are three known active cases.
- Northwestern Health Unit: 252 cases, rate of 287.4 per 100,000 people. There are 17 known active cases.
- Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 897 cases, rate of 598.2per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 923 cases. There are 170 known active cases.
The Ontario government has declared a state of emergency, the second since the start of the pandemic, and a stay at-home order is in effect until at least Feb. 11, 2021. There are additional measures in place for the shutdown, all of which can be found in this provincial breakdown.
