PUC wants to assure its customers and the general public that drinking water treated and supplied by the PUC Commission is safe to drink. The health and safety of our customers, communities and employees is our top priority.

As communicated by the World Health Organization (WHO), COVID-19 (coronavirus) has not been detected in drinking water. It is important for you to know that PUC drinking water treatment barriers provide protection that includes filtration and disinfection of our water supplies. These treatments are effective in removing and/or inactivating viruses.

The Government of Canada states that "Coronaviruses are most commonly spread from an infected person through:
    •    respiratory droplets when you cough or sneeze
    •    close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands
    •    touching something with the virus on it, then touching your eyes, nose or mouth before washing your hands

These viruses are not known to spread through ventilation systems or through water."

“PUC remains dedicated to supplying safe, reliable drinking water and wastewater services in the communities we serve,” stated Robert Brewer, president and CEO, PUC Services Inc. “We will continue to work with our partners in public health to keep our customers informed with the most accurate information.”

PUC delivers safe and reliable drinking water in the communities of Sault Ste. Marie, Blind River, North Shore, Richard’s Landing, and Desbarats. Customers who have questions or concerns should contact PUC’s Customer Care department Monday to Friday 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at 705-759-6522 or customer.care@ssmpuc.com.
