Local artist Tania Taraniuk-Caputo has taken her passion for painting and turned it into a way to lend a helping hand.

The Prince Township native has created a forget-me-not print with alcohol ink that is available for purchase, with all proceeds going toward helping the Alzheimer Society.

Taraniuk-Caputo uses alcohol ink to convey vibrant paintings inspired by our northern region’s beautiful landscapes, wildlife and natural surroundings, a news release from the Alzheimer Society stated. Forget-me-nots have become the symbol for the Alzheimer Society as they signify love and respect, everlasting memories, and connectedness.

The idea for the fundraiser came about after Taraniuk-Caputo, who has been selling her artwork online for three years, did a favour for a friend.

“One of the coordinators (at the Alzheimer Society), Lisa DeZordo, asked me to do a forget-me-not painting for her office,” she said. “Everyone loved it and thought it would be great to use for Alzheimer Awareness month. Immediately I knew I would want to donate the proceeds because I’ve been looking for a way to give back through my art. So the opportunity just fell in my lap.”

“Art has always been part of my life. I’ve always been an artist. Even when I was a kid, you could always find me with a sketchbook, drawing and colouring,” she said. “I never thought that I’d be considered an artist, this is just me following my passion.”

Taraniuk-Caputo doesn’t have a personal connection to Alzheimer’s, but her admiration for the city’s Alzheimer Society made her decision easy.

“The building itself is just so warm and inviting. When you walk in, you know that they’re passionate about the work that they do. I know people whose parents and loved ones have been in the situation where they needed help from the Alzheimer Society and I was looking to find a way to be able to contribute, so I’m really happy to do this,” Taraniuk-Caputo said.

The prints are available in 3 sizes:

11x14 = $50.00

16x20 = $85.00

24x30 = $120.00 (by special order only)

The prices do not include a frame. You can purchase your forget-me-not print by calling the Alzheimer Society at 705-942-2195. You can also purchase the prints directly from Taraniuk-Caputo on her website
