INSIDE THE VILLAGE: Gordon Lightfoot, a legend who will always live on

This week on the podcast: As the nation mourns a Canadian music icon, we reminisce with two hometown friends who knew the artist better than most. What a tale their thoughts do tell

Welcome back to Inside the Village, a one-of-a-kind podcast where all news is local — and no topic is off-limits.

On this week's episode: Remembering Gordon Lightfoot, a Canadian music icon who loved his hometown as much it loved him back.

Lightfoot passed away on May 1 at the age of 84 and was laid to rest in Orillia, the city where his musical journey began as a choir boy at St. Paul's United Church.

Lightfoot's death triggered an outpouring of affection across the country and beyond — and countless memories of a man who was as humble as he was talented. In his case, the legend truly does live on.

We are joined on the podcast by two friends who knew Lightfoot better than most: Pam Carter, president of the Mariposa Folk Festival and Foundation, and Karen Hilfman Millson, a retired minister who was the officiant at Lighfoot’s private funeral (at his request, in the church where it all started).

They knew the man behind the songs, and what a tale their thoughts do tell.

Hosted by Scott Sexsmith and Michael Friscolanti, the Editor-in-Chief of Village Media, Inside the Village is a news and current affairs podcast that provides a weekly window into some of the best local journalism from across our chain of Ontario newsrooms.
