Ken Lamming, Prince Township mayor, March 22, 2022

SooToday received the following letter from Prince Township resident about former Mayor Ken Lamming:

As another municipal election comes and goes, so do the figures on the public stage. Many municipalities in our immediate area have largely remained the same, and some have witnessed great change and upheaval during this particular election.

Prince Township has definitely witnessed some upheaval recently. And that may be a slight understatement. With three newly elected councillors, as well as a newly elected mayor, the local landscape has most definitely shifted.

Although long-serving Prince Township Mayor Ken Lamming has recently lost his position as mayor, and by an extremely small margin of only 20 votes, I don’t think many would argue with the fact that he has won the admiration of many in the community.

And despite one’s political views, no one could say his unwavering and never-ending dedication to his community has been nothing short of exemplary.

Over his more than 40 years of service to Prince Township – either as a councillor, a mayor, or community member – Lamming has played a pivotal role in establishing a firehall, events pavilion, municipal hall (which houses municipal offices, a museum, a library, EarlyOn child centre, kitchen and banquet room), bringing residential gas service to the area, Gros Cap marina upgrades and kayak launch, Gros Cap playground, and the list goes on and on. This is by no means a full list of projects he’s been a part of!

Lamming has contributed absolutely uncountable hours of volunteering with tractor parades, t-ball functions, events and functions at the Hall and Pavilion, community events with the recreation committee, helping out a neighbour, and daily maintenance of the ice rink every winter. Once again, this list never ends!

The sheer amount of hours Lamming has given to the community over the years is nothing short of spectacular! (His number is on more than one-speed dial list, I’m sure! Always just a phone call away and always ready to help!)

So as time marches on and the title of Prince Township mayor is passed on, I am among many, many people who wish to express a huge amount of gratitude and thanks to Ken Lamming for absolutely everything he has added to our community, both professionally and personally. He has poured his heart and soul into this community with a level of passion and dedication that is simply unparalleled, and for that, thank you!
