The annual Algoma University Spooktacular Community Halloween Trick-or-Treat event returns this year with a slightly different format.
In order to adhere to COVID-related health and safety protocols, the event will take place outdoors, states a release issued today by Algoma U.
The drive-through celebration of all things Halloween will take place on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Join Algoma University, the Algoma University Students’ Union (AUSU) and the Shingwauk Anishinaabe Students’ Association (SASA) as we welcome back our Spooktacular Community Halloween Trick-or-Treat event this year with a drive-through twist. The event will be taking place on the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021 at the Sault Ste. Marie campus.
With considerations surrounding COVID, the traditional indoor event will now take place completely outdoors. Families are encouraged to dress in costume and enjoy a drive-through trick-or-treat around the University’s 'spooktacular' campus, where they will have the opportunity to fill their bags with goodies and treats at specified stations. Those attending this event must stay in their vehicles at all times. All those handing out candy will be masked and sanitizing frequently. A route map will be provided upon arrival and will be shared on social media prior to the event on the University’s Facebook page here.
Those in attendance are encouraged to donate to the AUSU Food Pantry to participate. Serving a large number of students every week, the pantry addresses immediate food security needs faced by students on the Sault Ste. Marie campus and donations are greatly appreciated.
