Tickets are available now for performances by two traditional music groups that will be travelling through the Algoma region this May, states a news release issued by AlgomaTrad.

Full text of the AlgomaTrad news release follows:

AlgomaTrad is excited to present two of Canada's finest young traditional music groups – Vinta on Saturday, May 7 at the Old Town Hall in Richards Landing and on Monday, May 9 at Pier Seventeen in Blind River; and Jane and Kyle on Monday, May 16 at the AlgomaTrad Centre on St. Joseph Island and Tuesday, May 17 at Pier Seventeen in Blind River. Tickets are available online.

Vinta, a multi-instrumental quartet of phenomenal musicianship, is Nathan Smith (fiddle, guitar, vocals), Emilyn Stam (piano, fiddle, viola), John David Williams (clarinet, accordion), and Robert Alan Mackie (acoustic bass, fiddle), four brilliant performers and close friends at the cutting edge of European traditional music in Canada, including music from France, Quebec, and Scandinavia, as well as their own song and tune compositions.

Vinta are booked to play the Mariposa Folk Festival this summer. Here's a chance to see them right here in Algoma. You can also check them out on YouTube for a glimpse at their wonderful music.

Canadian fiddle champions Jane Cory and Kyle Burghout have performed for audiences across Canada, the USA, and Europe and have just released their first recording, Of Hills and Valleys. Each with many accolades to their credit – Jane a Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Champion, and Kyle a North American Irish Fiddle Champion – they join forces to create innovative arrangements filled with lush twin fiddle harmonies. They will be joined by Cape Breton pianist Tyson Chen and five-time Canadian Open Step Dance Champion and guitarist Kyle Waymouth.

Jane and Kyle both grew up in areas with rich fiddling traditions – Jane in Manitoba and Kyle in the Ottawa Valley – and their shows feature a blend of the traditional tunes from their roots and contemporary tunes written by fiddlers from across Canada and beyond, including many compositions of their own.
