SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. - Sault Ste. Marie’s Sunrise Rotary Club and Lake Superior State University’s Arts Center Gallery art competition and show will welcome many 5x7 canvases donated through the generosity of regional artists with a public reception on Apr. 21. All are varied in the theme of, Through a Window.

The fourth-annual art show preview reception will be hosted 6-8 p.m. in the Arts Center gallery, and includes music, hors d’oeuvres, and wine. It also features pianist Elaine Sprague and the cellist groups Cantus Celli and the Soo Cello Crew.

Reception patrons have the first opportunity to view and purchase original works of art for $50. The artist’s name will be hidden on all artwork during the reception and revealed during an exhibit that runs during May. A panel of local judges will determine best in show ($300), second place ($200), and third place ($100).

Proceeds from the event will benefit the LSSU Arts Center gallery exhibition programming and Sunrise Rotary’s designated charity, the Diane Peppler Resource Center.

This exhibit will be on display Apr. 21-May 31 during gallery hours of 12 – 4 p.m. Tuesday; Wednesday, and Friday, and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Following the reception, the LSSU Music Ensembles will present a spring concert on the Arts Center Stage. The LSSU Chorus, under the direction of Karen Hughes Beacom, will perform a DIY Mass with five movements from various works, such as the Credo from Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Agnus Dei from Mozart's Requiem, as well as a contemporary arrangement of a Kyrie arranged by John Leavitt.

The LSSU Chamber Choir will perform other popular works like, When You Wish Upon a Star and Part of Your World.

The LSSU Concert Band, made up of students and community members under the direction of Dorothy Case, will perform pieces in a variety of styles from Gustav Holst to excerpts from West Side Story.

Admission to the concert is by donation and will be accepted at the door. LSSU students attend for free. The program will be approximately one hour.
