Habitat for Humanity hosts first-ever Touch a Truck (12 photos)

Emergency, construction, and city vehicles were on-site for fun and educational demonstrations

The Marconi Cultural Event Centre was bumping today as families from across town came out in support of Habitat for Humanity’s newest event – Touch a Truck.

The hands-on event allowed children of all ages to get up close to a variety of trucks, cars, and construction equipment.

Among the trucks were emergency services vehicles like fire trucks and police cruisers, as well as construction vehicles, city buses, and tractors.

Drivers were on scene to assist the kids into the vehicles and provided educational demonstrations on how they work.

Several vendors like Beaver Tails, Roolz Cotton Candy, and Fallen Leaves Maple Products were on-site as well to provide some tasty snacks and refreshments.

Chelsea Foucher, the fundraising marketing coordinator with Habitat for Humanity, says this is their first event since the pandemic, and she was ecstatic to welcome back the community to this highly anticipated fundraiser.

“It’s really nice that the kids have something to do,” she says. “It’s an educational and fun day out for the families.”

Entry fee for attendees was by donation. Without counting the donations yet, Habitat for Humanity has already raised over $10,000 thanks to all the participating vendors, sponsors, and truck providers.

All funds will go towards Habitat’s Affordable Homeownership Program, aimed at helping local families build brighter futures.
