Laughter yoga added to WTF Comedy Festival

Warning: you’ll laugh uncontrollably. The WTF Comedy Festival is offering a dose of the best medicine around. A laughter yoga session has been added to the event lineup. The gut-busting class is taking place at Sault College on Tuesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. in room M1030 of Essar Hall.

Laughter yoga is a modern twist on an ancient tradition. The practice is done in groups, and it involves playfulness and fun between participants. Laughter is contagious and triggers the release of endorphins, which promotes an overall sense of well-being. Not only does it increase happiness, it has also been shown to strengthen the immune system, reduce pain and lower stress.

Admission to the laughter yoga session of the WTF Comedy Festival is $10. Space is limited. To reserve a spot, visit the WTF website. Parking is free.

The session is being directed by Susan McLachlan, a certified laughter leader who facilitates workshops across the province. “Laughter is an easy way to promote positive well-being,” she said.

“The class will teach participants how to release stress, liberate the spirit and laugh unconditionally. No previous yoga experience is required, but an open mind and willingness to step out of your comfort zone is welcomed. Come alone or bring a friend – either way, you’ll leave this session smiling. I thank Sault College for the support in making this forum possible.”

Along with the laughter yoga class, the WTF Comedy Festival features the following events:

• Celebrity Jokers’ Poker Tournament at Gateway Casino Sault Ste. Marie (June 7);
• Dave Broadfoot Awards Luncheon at the Machine Shop (June 8);
• Russell Peters Deported World Tour headline show at the Essar Centre (June 8);
• Late-night performances at Soo Blaster (June 8) and the Canadian Night Club (June 9);
• All-star Variety Show at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre (June 9); and
• Murder on the Agawa Express, a comedy murder mystery aboard the Agawa Canyon Train Tour (June 9).
