Locals put painting skills to test at Art Gallery (9 photos)

Ojibwe artist Patrick Hunter is providing paint classes through the Seven Grandfather Teachings

As part of the festivities for the 50th annual Algoma Fall Festival, residents are taking paint classes at the Art Gallery of Algoma today.

Led by Ojibwe artist Patrick Hunter, participants are learning the fundamentals of painting techniques through the Seven Grandfather Teachings.

Hunter says attendees will have a better understanding of the spiritual significance and history of the Woodland Art form in Indigenous communities after they’ve completed their painting.

The first class runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and a second class takes place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Both sessions are sold out.
