SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. - Two Dafter artists will exhibit in Alberta House Nov. 1 through 30. Sean Reilly, whose detailed drawings are in the Olive Craig Gallery, works in graphite and Prismacolor pencil and with these rudimentary tools manages to make his drawings glow from within.

The first time his work appeared in Alberta House was in 2013 when he came out of nowhere to take the first place award in the annual juried exhibition. He made a second appearance in 2015 when he again entered the juried show and garnered second place.

Both of his winning entries were graphite drawings and both, like much of his work, had a Western theme, although viewers may see much that is nautical as well.

Carolyn Person’s soapstone carvings are in the Mini Gallery. Carolyn is an award winning sculptor who has lately become well known for both her book and article illustrations and as a writer and historian.

She began carving soapstone in Fairbanks, Alaska almost 50 years ago. Her best known sculptures are soapstone creations of bears, fish and rabbits although she takes her cue from the stone, so her scope is wide. Her award winning work is now widely distributed across the country – one piece even resides in Japan.

Carolyn has titled her exhibit One Last Time because she plans to pursue her many other interests in the future.

Meet both artists at their reception in Alberta House this Friday, Nov. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. Both exhibits will be in place through Nov. 31. Alberta House is located at 217 Ferris St., just south of the Soo Locks and open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
