They’re both Pisces with birthdays just one day apart, so local cafe co-owners Nicole Dyble and Sam Decter decided it made sense to celebrate together.

As they met other Pisces, the plan expanded to include a number of gatherings.

And then it dawned on them - why not create a festival to celebrate everything Pisces?

So now, the pair has scheduled a month-long series of events and activities for the inaugural Fishbowl Festival of Community, Food, Arts and Culture.

From Saturday, February 20 through Sunday, March 20, the Gore Street Cafe will host everything from live music, comedy and film screenings to cooking classes and theatre workshops.

Festival highlights include Like a Pisces: A Kurt Cobain Tribute with The Pixo Control on February 20, the 48-Hour Film Challenge starting February 26, an intro to gluten free cooking at Cafe Natura on March 2, the premiere of Christopher Shoust's film Darkness on March 3, a special performance by Rae Spoon on March 5, the Seriously Silly Improv Show on March 16, and much more.

The festival closes the evening of March 20 with a party at OutSpoken Brewing starting at 7 p.m.

Many of the events included are those the Gore Street Cafe has wanted to undertake for some time, Dyble told SooToday, and they've helped the cafe forge new community partnerships.

Passes to the Fishbowl Festival, available now at the Gore Street Cafe, are $25 each and offer either free or discounted entrance into all associated events.
