Practice self-love and compassion with this virtual yoga workshop

Online workshop will be held via Zoom on Sunday, May 30 from 2 - 4 p.m

Amélie Goudreau has been practicing yoga for close to 10 years.

Every now and then, we could all benefit from some relaxation and taking time to practice self-love. Local yoga teacher Amélie Goudreau hopes to help people in the community achieve this with a virtual yoga workshop focused on self-love and compassion.

The online workshop will be held via Zoom on Sunday, May 30 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

“Participants can expect to learn practices that they can incorporate into their daily lives to solidify their self-love and lead a life where they feel comfortable in their skin,” Goudreau said. “The movements will be very gentle restorative postures where focus on opening the heart and breathwork. It will be suitable for all levels.”

The workshop will be taught by Goudreau along with Chey Johns, a psychology student and trauma-informed yoga teacher who will focus on the research and theory component.

“We’re helping individuals with practices where they can show empathy. We will talk about the ‘brain bully’ in our heads. We tend to be very hard on ourselves, and instead of criticizing ourselves, we will talk about how to turn that into more of an empathetic gesture. An example would be to talk to ourselves as if we are talking to a close friend or a loved one. We all have that inner critic and we can learn how to quiet that voice,” Goudreau said.

Yoga promotes mindfulness and allows individuals to be more aware of their presence, Goudreau says, which are both big components in achieving self-love.

Goudreau has been practicing yoga for 10 years, and has been teaching yoga since October of 2020. She currently teaches yoga classes virtually and in-person at Peaceful Warrior Wellness Studio.

You can register for “Yoga for Self-Love” on Goudreau’s website. The meeting link will be automatically sent after registration.

“Even though it will be held virtually, there can still be a sense of community where we can come together and have the conversation about self-love and understand that this is something we all go through,” she said.
