Shot in the Dark presents its final comedy of the season; Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein, a musical-comedy based on the hit 1974 monster movie classic. The show runs Apr. 19 - 22 at The Tech at 8 p.m.

After a successful fall and winter season of theatre and charity work, Shot in the Dark is wrapping up the season with style. In its biggest show of the year, the local production company is putting on the ritz by staging this 2007 musical for the first time in Sault Ste. Marie.

Young Frankenstein tells the story of a lonely doctor’s quest to bring dead tissue back to life and follows his misadventures when an out-of-control monster runs amuck in Transylvania. The musical features songs inspired by the cult classic and brings all the familiar characters to life on stage.

Originally written by Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks as a parody of classic monster movies (Universal Pictures’ Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein in particular), the musical plays as a loving tribute to vaudeville, farcical humour and the great Broadway traditions of song, dance and laughter.

In the spirit of fun, Shot in the Dark is inviting audience members to dress in costume for the Wednesday, Apr. 19 opening night performance. It is a general admission night so not all audience members are required to dress up, but those who adorn the look and style of their favourite horror movie icons or classic monster costumes will receive a $10 discount on their ticket.

Moving forward with founder Sue Barber’s vision of connecting with local charities and causes, Shot in the Dark will be partnering with Tracy’s Dream for this show. Tracy’s Dream’s mission is to create affordable hospital parking for cancer patients. A recent trivia night fundraiser raised over $400 for the cause.

Tickets are $30 per person or $25 for a students and seniors. Call Cori at (705) 542-2194 to reserve yours or visit here. Tickets are also available at the main office at The Tech of the Community Theatre Centre Box Office in Station Mall.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m., Apr. 19 - 22, at The Tech.
