Singer-songwriter comes ashore for Sault debut

Jerry Popiel makes his Sault Ste. Marie debut May 20.

Jerry Popiel, a regular performer for Viking Cruise Lines during Great Lakes ports of call, is taking his act solidly to terra firma May 20 with his Sault Ste. Marie debut at Bird's Eye Outfitters at 6 p.m.

The Cleveland singer-songwriter is best known for “The Wreck of the El Faro” that pays tribute to that ship’s tragic 2015 sinking as well as his cover of Gordon Lightfoot’s “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” 

His live set includes covers from the high-water mark of the singer-songwriter era, including Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Lightfoot and many more.

Popiel is a many-time performer for Live Nation’s Blossom Music Center VIP club, singing before greats such as Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, Dierks Bentley, Doobie Brothers, Hootie and the Blowfish and many more.  Additionally, he appeared  in the 2015 feature film “A Bigger Splash” starring Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson.
