Hailing from the Yukon, motivational dancer Gurdeep Pandher led several routines for locals at Bellevue Park this summer. He's one of the high-profile guests taking part in Algoma Reads this year

The Algoma Reads project is set to host a trio of high-profile guests coming up.

The series begins on Nov. 13 with student-led interviews with Gurdeep Pandher.

Pandher has caught the attention of many by spreading positivity and uplifting Bhangra lessons and defending Dimitri Nasrallah’s Hotline (2022) on CBC’s 2023  Canada Reans selection.

On Nov. 20, the series will host author Michael Christie, who wrote Greenwood (2019), a national bestseller that earned a spot on the Scotiabank Giller Prize longlist and secured the Arthur Ellis Award for Best Novel.

On Nov. 27, Dr. Melanie Dennis Unrau will discuss the CBC Canada Reads victor Ducks by Kate Beaton. Unrau is an SSHRC Banting Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Regina.

“Hosting a CBC Canada Reads book defender for the very first time is incredibly exciting,” said Dr. Alice Ridout, Chair of the Department of English and History at Algoma University. “It will be fascinating to gain a behind-the-scenes look at what it is like to participate in one of our nation’s largest literary media events, CBC’s Canada Reads.”
