Think you could be Anne of Green Gables?

To help celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, Musical Comedy Guild of Sault Ste. Marie is proud to announce it will be staging Anne of Green Gables: The Musical Nov. 23 to 26, 2017 at the Sault Community Theatre Centre. The full stage production will be directed by Timothy Murphy with music direction by Ron Dal Cin and produced by Thomas Brandstetter and Leith Harris.  

Based on the novel Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery, the musical has been performed continuously ever since 1965, making it Canada's longest running musical! In March 2014, the production was officially recognized as the longest running annual musical theatre production in the world by Guinness World Records.

There will be an online video audition contest titled Searching For Anne to cast the lead role of Anne Shirley. Those wishing to audition for the lead role are to video record themselves singing one of five songs and either upload the video to YouTube and email us the link, or email your audition video to SearchingForAnne2017@gmail.com by 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 15.

The public will then be allowed to vote for their favourite Anne between Friday, June 16 and Thursday, June 22  on SooToday. The eight contestants receiving the most votes and two director’s picks will be announced on Friday, June 23. The 10 contestants will take part in a live audition at the Station Mall (Dennis Street Court) starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 24 which will consist of singing, acting and choreography.

Full contest details and the list of audition songs can be found here. The winner of the contest will be announced on July 1 immediately following the City of Sault Ste. Marie’s Canada Day opening ceremonies at the Bondar Pavilion which start at 1 p.m.

Youth ensemble auditions will take place at St. Hubert’s on Dacey Road at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, and adult auditions will take place at St. Hubert’s on Dacey Road at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 25. Lead character auditions will take place at St. Hubert’s on Dacey Road at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 26.
