Gathering at the Rapids Pow Wow returns after two-year hiatus

FRIDAY, JUNE 3 - ART X Revive opens a new exhibition of work by current and recent visual art graduates from Algoma University, bringing together work by eight visual art students and alumni. Refreshments will be available, and admission is free, although donations that go directly. It’s on from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at 498 Queen St. E. using the Spring Street entrance.

FRIDAY, JUNE 3 - Bearded Lounge performs at the Water Tower Pub at 8 p.m.

FRIDAY, JUNE 3 - Soundcheck plays Reggie's Tavern, 458 Queen St. E., starting at 9:30 p.m.

SATURDAY, JUNE 4 - After a two-year absence from hosting the Gathering at the Rapids Pow Wow on the Algoma University campus, the Shingwauk Anishnaabe Students' Association (SASA), Anishinaabe Academic Resource Centre (AARC), Anishinaabe Peoples Council and Shingwauk Kinomage Gamig (Shingwauk University) in partnership with the greater Anishinaabe community welcome everyone to attend and indulge in Indigenous culture which includes traditional drumming, singing, and competition dancing. The 16th annual Gathering at the Rapids Pow Wow: Celebrating Life Long Learning’, will take place at the George Leach Centre (GLC) located on the campus of Algoma University from Saturday, June 4 to Sunday, June 5, 2022.

SATURDAY, JUNE 4 - Learn to Disc Golf from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Penhorwood Park on Pine Street. The Sault Disc Golf Association in partnership with the City of Sault Ste Marie is hosting a Learn to Disc Golf event for new players interested in trying out the sport and learning a few tips from our more experienced players. Admission is Free and discs will be provided to those who attend.

SATURDAY, JUNE 4 - Pauline’s Place is gearing up for an evening filled with entertainment and fun as Glambition makes its highly anticipated debut at the Bushplane Heritage Centre this Saturday. From 6 to 10 p.m., attendees will enjoy a diverse lineup of entertainment including fashion shows, dance performances, stand-up comedy and live music. Several local vendors will also be on-site with food, drinks, and other refreshments. Tickets can be purchased online, or at the main entrance.

SATURDAY, JUNE 4 - The City of Sault Ste. Marie will be holding a free Try a Sport Day for community members of all ages at several city-run athletic facilities. These are ‘fun first events’ designed to keep people physically active. Throughout Saturday, June 4, the public may try out:

  • Pickleball, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Elliot Sports Complex
  • Soccer, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tom Tipton Field
  • Disc Golf, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Penhorwood Park
  • Tennis, 12 to 2 p.m., North Street Courts
  • Ultimate Frisbee, 12 to 2 p.m., Rosedale Park
  • Baseball, 1 to 3 p.m., North Street Field
  • Volleyball, 2 to 4 p.m., Waterfront Centre
  • Waterfront Adventure, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Waterfront Centre (must be at least 14 years of age)

SATURDAY JUNE 4 - Kiwanis Fender Vendor and Junk In The Trunk event at St. Mary's 9 a.m.-4 p.m., 868 Second Line E.

SUNDAY, JUNE 5 - The Ladies Auxiliary of the RCL Br. 374 in Richards Landing is holding a Strawberry Tea and Craft Sale. Join us for a soup, sandwich and dessert while perusing the local crafters. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

SUNDAY, JUNE 5 - BREWGA at Northern Superior Brewing Co. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join us at Northern Superior Brewing Co. for yoga and beer! This class will be hosted outside on the taproom patio (weather permitting). Sign up here.

SUNDAY JUNE 5 -  Summer At The Mill (Vendor Event) at Century 21's The Rink 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

THURSDAY, JUNE 9 - Ed Fernandez, comedy hypnotist, will be starting his northern Ontario tour at Soo Blaster. Fernandez began his career at a young age and shared the stage with generations of performers, like Bob Hope, Liberace, Dan Ackroyd and April Wine. For tickets, call Soo Blaster at 705-450-0095.
