Rotaryfest and Pridefest both begin this week

THURSDAY, JULY 14

  • Queen Street Block Party happens from 4 to 10 p.m. Queen Street East will be closed to traffic from Pim Street to Spring Street. Event includes food and refreshments, local beer, live music, kid’s games and more.
  • Rotaryfest Stage 1 music begins at 6 p.m. in Clergue Park and includes performances from the Northern Jazz Ensemble, Flathead Ford, Wyld Stallyns, and L!ME.
  • Stories Steeped in Stone presents Traces by Micheal Burtch and Annie King at the Heritage Discovery Centre Theatre (800 Bay St.) at 7 p.m.
  • Jazz Night at OutSpoken features Jake Valois, Frank Deresti and Cliff Alloy preforming on the OutSpoken Brewing patio (350 Queen St. E.) from 7 to 10 p.m.

FRIDAY, JULY 15

  • Wheels on the Water Car Show takes place at The Machine Shop from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Registration begins at noon.
  • Rotaryfest Stage 1 music begins at 5 p.m. in Clergue Park and includes performances from Ladies Sing The Blues, RPM, Obsession, Mike Haggith, Mustang Heart, and Angry Joe and the Growlers.
  • Rotaryfest SooToday Stage Two kicks off at 5:30 p.m. as the Sault Blues Society hosts Friday Night Blues with The Swamp Cats, Big Wheel and the Spokes, Smokehouse, and the Rusty McCarthy Band. The stage is located beside the Art Gallery of Algoma.
  • Handsome Sandwich performs at Shooters Lounge, 68 Dennis St., from 8 p.m. to midnight.
  • Greg Machlachlan and Friends will play the OutSpoken Brewing patio (350 Queen St. E.) from 8 to 11 p.m.

SATURDAY, JULY 16

  • Velofest 2022 happens at Velorution Bike and Ski, 12 Fish Hatchery Rd. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event includes food and refreshments, a variety of races, a beer tent, and more.
  • Annual Sustain Algoma Expo promotes sustainable living in the region and features unique initiatives and products, including food and agriculture, wood products, water management, social enterprise, and arts and culture. The expo will be take place at the Johnson Township Community Centre in Desbarats, Ont. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Miracle Mile Colour Blast begins at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre at 10:30 a.m. Registration kicks off at 9 a.m.
  • 99th annual Rotary Community Day Parade runs along Queen Street East from Church to Gore starting at 11 a.m.
  • Rotaryfest Stage 1 music begins at noon in Clergue Park and includes performances from Pegasus, The Jeff and Jeff Show, All The Tired Horses, Fort Creek, Kt Antler and Keith Conway, Brendan Hodgson, Julian Taylor (presented by Evolugen), Mid Life Crysis, Queen Flash - The Ultimate Queen Tribute, and Bone Yard.
  • Rotaryfest SooToday Stage Two kicks off at 12:30 p.m. with local original music from These Magnificent Tentacles, Sainte Marie, Jupiter Marvelous, Hollow Heads, Planet Rock, Handsome Sandwich, Dynowaves, The Uncanny Valley and The Northwest. The stage is located beside the Art Gallery of Algoma.

SUNDAY, JULY 17

  • Arts at the Dock features more than 40 northern Ontario artists, crafters and makers. The event takes place at the Hilton Beach Marina on St. Joseph Island from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Progress Pride flag will be raised at City Hall at noon to officially usher in Sault Ste. Marie’s 9th annual Pridefest. The Pride Walk will follow to the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre for the Loud and Proud Family Fun Day. This is a free event and everyone is welcome to attend.
  • Tym Morrison performs at Reggie’s Place, 458 Queen St. E., from 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Canadian Wrestling's Elite, featuring Mentallo and Shaun Martens, returns to the Sault at Soo Blaster, 345 Queen St. E. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Click here for tickets.

MONDAY, JULY 18

  • For those looking to upgrade their wardrobe to suit their evolving identity, or just find a few new pieces, join us at LopLops (back entrance) at 651 Queen St. E. from noon to 7 p.m. for the Pridefest Out of the Closet Clothing Drive. Donations of clothing, shoes, jewelry, unopened period products, unused makeup, toiletries, and hair products are graciously accepted at Amore (331 Korah Rd.) prior to the event date.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 20

  • Pridefest Fashion Show and Barbecue happens at Amore, 331 Korah Rd. from 3 to 10 p.m. Fashion shows kick off at 4:30 and 7 p.m. This is a licensed, 19+ event.
