Participants and visitors had the opportunity to indulge in Indigenous culture during the 13th annual Gathering at the Rapids Pow Wow: Celebrating Life Long Learning at the George Leach Centre at Algoma University this weekend.
The event saw a competition pow wow, which included individuals from across turtle island, a drum competition, as well as a myriad of vendors.
Joanne Perrault, VP Shingwauk Anishinaabe Student Association, says her favourite part is just walking around and seeing all the smiling faces.
"Everybody gets along when they come to powwow. Seeing community members or those that have moved away and come back for the powwow, it's like one big happy family," says Perrault.
"It's really big in the community, especially here at the university. It's the home of the residential school, so it's really important for us to be able to come back to a place where we are able to practice our traditions and recognize our culture and speak our language. But here we are today doing just that."
