40 vendors gathered for Everything Country's fur and feather sale (17 photos)

The large tailgate-style sale happened Sunday at the Johnson Township Community Centre

For folks that have never been to 'fur and feather' sale before, Sunday was an experience.

It’s a large tailgate sale where small livestock enthusiasts buy, sell and trade everything from chickens and ducks to rabbits and goats.

"This year our sale grew into 'Everything Country'," said events committee member, Teri Winter.

Winter said more than 40 vendors gathered in the Johnson Township Arena pavilion offering everything from homemade goods, soaps, candles, maple syrup, jewellery, wood and vintage furniture, bee supplies – so many handcrafted pieces each vendor crafted with love.

The Meadowview alpacas were a fun mix of sass and spice enjoying a perfect sunny day.

Youngsters were seen dancing with Heidi at the Healthy Kids Challenge station, while others dressed up in full firefighter turnout gear to inspect the firetrucks with the Johnson Township Fire Department.

Many folks sat and enjoyed the fun community environment while sampling some delights from Cheryl’s Café (best fries in Algoma), Winter added.

"A fundraiser for the Youth Algoma Poultry Association with support from Johnson Township, we hope to do it even bigger and better next year," Winter said.

This year's fur and feather event was a second for the group, but this year was described as a, 'new' version. It was, Winter added, the first time at the Johnson Township Community Centre.

"It's a perfect sized venue for this event, it has so much to offer," she said.

The Youth Algoma Poultry Association is run by several families in Algoma with kids that are poultry enthusiasts.

Winter said kids learn about poultry keeping, have fun gatherings, run large poultry competitions at fairs and do outreach, extending kudos to Amanda Holmes who was an integral part in the sales success.

Youth Algoma Poultry Association does not have membership fees, it is entirely run on donations and love, Winter added.
