The winner of $83,640 in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation 50/50 Draw could not have won at a better time – he is about to become a father and he and his partner are looking to buy a home.

On Feb. 29, Nicholas McIntosh of Sault Ste. Marie won an $83,640 jackpot in SAHF's February draw.

McIntosh’s lucky number (F-2211987) was drawn electronically, and he was called immediately, the foundation said in a release.

“No way!” was McIntosh’s first response when he was told he’d won the draw.

McIntosh, in his 20s, is one of the younger winners of the monthly SAHF 50/50.

McIntosh and his partner are expecting a baby in July and trying to buy a house.

“This win is coming at a great time for us, we’re so excited!” he said.

McIntosh wasn’t the only winner this month – February’s Early Bird, Lori Rose of Sault Ste. Marie and her group of 10 were the lucky winners of $10,000 on Feb. 14 with ticket F-6215545.

“It’s great to see how life-changing these prizes can be for our winners,” said Teresa Martone, executive director at SAHF.

“For this month’s jackpot winner, it’s helping purchase a home. For past winners, it’s helped secure a retirement fund or purchase a new vehicle. It’s wonderful to see how these lotteries can make a positive impact on individuals in our community. And our loyal supporters continue to make a positive impact on our local hospital.”

Tickets for SAHF’s March 50/50 draw are on sale now. Get tickets before March 13 for a chance to win the $10,000 early bird prize – plus every ticket has a chance at the growing jackpot. In addition to online sales at www.soolottery.ca, tickets can be purchased in person at the SAHF Office (750 Great Northern Rd.) from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
