The Anishinaabe Initiatives Department at Algoma University and Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig (SKG) invite you to attend the 3rd Biennial Anishinaabe Inendamowin (Thought) Research Symposium, being held on Jan. 26, 2018, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. This year’s theme is Weaving Meaningful Anishinaabe Research Bundles.

The Anishinaabe Inendamowin Research Symposium highlights the research being conducted by Anishinaabe faculty, students, alumni, as well as emerging Anishinaabe researchers at other universities in the region. Such events like the symposium make Algoma a hub for witnessing and undertaking Anishinaabe perspectives in research.

The symposium also encourages Anishinaabe students to consider higher education. Since the inception of Anishinaabe student support and services in 1987, numerous students have continued their education, completing professional programming, as well as post-graduate programs at the master’s and doctoral level.

“Doing research at the undergraduate level is a key to opening that door. We are just planting some seeds with this symposium,” said Dr. Rose Cameron, Assistant Professor at Algoma U. “This event is critical to the research framework of the University, and the students have an opportunity to showcase their research interests and aspirations to the community. This is a huge success for the University.”

Dr. Jerry Fontaine and Roger Boyer will be delivering keynote addresses. For more information, please contact Anishinaabe social and cultural program coordinator, Melissa Agawa, at Melissa.agawa@algomau.ca or call 705-949-2301, ext. 4816.

The symposium is open to all members of the University as well as the public. In lieu of a registration, participants are encouraged to bring one non-perishable item that will be donated to Algoma University Student Foodbank.
