Today, Algoma University marked the United Nation’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on campus. 

At 11:30 a.m., the University hosted a community barbecue and potluck in The Speakeasy. Food served had a cultural flair, prepared by students, staff, and faculty from Indigenous communities, Bangladesh, Japan, Korea, India, Canada, and more.

Those in attendance were treated to special musical performances from international students and the Algoma U Jazz Ensemble.

Pauline Danquah, the incoming President of the Algoma University Students’ Union (AUSU) and Jane Omollo of New to the Sault, delivered speeches on the significance of the day, highlighting the need for tolerance and ending racial discrimination. 

The event highlighted the importance of an inclusive and diverse campus community, in which everyone is welcome.

Over 250 people participated in the event.
