Bald eagle hit by car on I-75 in Sault Michigan

Michigan Department of Natural Resource (DNR) officers responded to a call this morning that a bald eagle was hit by a car on southbound I-75 near exit 392.

The call came in just after 10 a.m.

Conservation officer Kevin Postma and Wildlife Technician Rachel Leggett responded.

They say the immature bald eagle, approximately two years of age, was feeding on a deer carcass well off the interstate when it flew in front of a southbound car and was struck.

Postma says it is common for bald eagles to feed off the deer carcasses this time of year.

The car suffered minor front-end damage. Police in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan took that report.

Postma believes the young bald eagle suffered a broken wing and was transported to a local veterinarian's office for further observation and treatment.

The veterinarian's office would not release the condition of the bald eagle when contacted this afternoon.
