Bif Naked coming to northern Ontario for Pride in the Woods

Rock musician Bif Naked is slated to perform an acoustic set during Pride in the Woods, an annual 2SLGBTQ+ pride festival at Fox Haven Campground.

Located between Sudbury and Sturgeon Falls, the campground is hosting the festival from Aug. 22-25, with Bif Naked scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. on Aug. 24.

"Pride in the Woods is a unique celebration of our diverse and resilient community in Northern Ontario,” What The Fox Trot executive director Ryan Jackson said in a media release.

“We're thrilled to host Bif Naked, an artist whose journey of courage and advocacy deeply resonates with our mission. This festival is about coming together, having fun, and celebrating who we are in a safe and inclusive space. We can’t wait to see everyone there!"

The festival is considered an inclusive event which a media release said “promises an unforgettable weekend filled with performances, drag shows, campfires, and dancing under the stars, all in celebration of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.”

The organizing organization What the Fox Trot is a non-profit organization which a media release said strives to keep the event affordable at $10 for a day pass. Major events are held in accessible buildings, and the festival strives to prioritize the safety and comfort of attendees.

Beth Torbert, best known by her stage name Bif Naked, rose to prominence in the Canadian music scene in the 90s with such songs as “Spaceman,” and in 2001 released radio staple “I Love Myself Today.” She received an honorary doctorate from the University of the Fraser Valley in 2013, "in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the performing arts, her courage in dealing with a number of personal challenges, and especially for her dedicated, inspirational, and life-changing work with young women."

Bif Naked's memoir, “I, Bificus,” was published by HarperCollins in 2016, and her latest album, “Champion,” was released this summer.
