Jody Rebek has devoted her career to bettering our community by strengthening local conservation efforts.
Through her passion for water protection, sustainability and food security, she has engaged businesses, university colleagues and students to get involved with the environment.
Offering an interdisciplinary perspective, Jody takes an ecological, community development-based standpoint which offers a holistic approach to land stewardship and water conservation here in the heart of the Great Lakes.
In addition to teaching at Algoma University and providing consulting services through Vive, Jody is the co-founder of Water Wise and works closely with environmental and water protection agencies on both sides of the border. She also helped established Hearterra, which provides a service for Saultites to purchase home goods in an environmentally responsible way while reducing waste.
Jody has also served our city by volunteering on a number of boards, including the Lake Superior Conservancy and Watershed Council, Sault Ste. Marie and Area Physician Recruitment, and the Sault Ste. Marie Best for Kids Committee.
The Environment Award is presented to a person who has had a positive impact on our environment, demonstrating to the rest of us what is possible in improving our community’s environmental footprint.
Congratulations, Jody!
