Sault Ste. Marie's Downtown Association has released details about a planned town hall meeting about core-area safety and security issues.

As SooToday reported last night, representatives of law enforcement and social service agencies will attend a 'downtown dialogue' to be modeled after a sometimes-heated town hall gathering about downtown parking on July 4.

Association members were advised this afternoon that the safety and security meeting will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the same location as the July meeting: Mane Street Café at 626 Queen St. East.

Here's the notice sent today to Downtown Association members:

RSVP to the upcoming town hall!

Good afternoon Downtown Association members,

The safety and security subcommittee is holding a town hall with Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, Canadian Mental Health Association, and Social Services on Thursday Sept. 26, 2024, 5 p.m. at Mane Street Café, 626 Queen St. East.

Presenters will be providing best practices for Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, safeguards for your business/property, and effective dispatch methods for responding to incidences of crime or situations related to mental health and addictions.

If you are interested in attending please RSVP by replying to this email with your name and contact information or call 705-942-2919.

Presenters are asking that questions to them be sent in advance prior to the meeting. If you have a question to either Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, Canadian Mental Health Association, or to Social Services, please submit to this link.

Nicholas Luck, the Downtown Association's executive director, told SooToday that the meeting will be open to the public, but non-members are also asked to RSVP.

"We prefer that members of the public RSVP due to capacity limits," Luck said.
