The Easter Seals Telethon is back from April 11-25,  Easter Seals Ontario said in a news release.

The one-hour special - featuring interviews with local Easter Seals families, and a special look back at how Easter Seals’ fully accessible camps have changed the lives of youth in the communitywill run daily at 7 p.m., asking viewers and the community to come together to help raise funds to purchase accessibility and mobility equipment for children and youth with physical disabilities.

“As restrictions continue to be reduced across the province, we anticipate a surge in equipment funding requests from Easter Seals families,” says Carolyn O’Connor, Development Officer for Sault Ste. Marie. “Kids who have been isolated or unable to receive assessments as a result of the pandemic will finally be able to apply for the mobility and accessibility equipment they need.”

Easter Seals Ontario will broadcast its annual Telethon on Shaw Spotlight channel 10, Blue Curve 105, and online at www.TelethonSSM.ca. The one-hour special will run daily at 7 p.m., from April 11 to April 25. The show will appeal to viewers and the community to come together to help raise funds to purchase urgently needed accessibility and mobility equipment for children and youth with physical disabilities.

It has been a long two years, and many kids have outgrown their equipment or require additional devices. Let’s make sure they don’t have to wait any longer. By tuning into the Telethon and making a donation, you will be removing limitations and creating a brighter tomorrow for children and youth with physical disabilities.

The fundraiser will feature interviews with local Easter Seals families, and a special look back at how Easter Seals’ fully accessible camps have changed the lives of youth in our community. The special will also see the return of the popular “Club 52”. This delicious initiative is made possible by the support of local restaurants. While supplies last, donors who pledge $52 will receive a $25 gift certificate to a participating restaurant. These gift certificates have been generously donated by the restaurants, so that 100 per cent of the proceeds go to Easter Seals. This year's participating restaurants are:

  • Uncle Gino's Café
  • Grand Gardens
  • Ernie's Coffee Shop
  • Hard Wok Café
  • Tempo at the Marconi Cultural Centre
  • Casey's at the Water Tower Inn
  • Johnny's Chophouse

This year’s Telethon is particularly significant as Easter Seals is celebrating 100 years of creating a better world for kids with physical disabilities in 2022.

“We are extremely proud of this milestone,” O’Connor continues. “Over the past century we have helped countless kids with physical disabilities experience greater independence and dignity so they can live their lives to the fullest. But we do not work alone. Everything we have accomplished can only be attributed to the remarkable dedication, committed service, and extraordinary generosity of our donors, sponsors, supporters, volunteers, and community partners.”

A trusted partner and champion since 1922, Easter Seals Ontario is proud to be marking 100 years of changing the world for kids with physical disabilities in 2022. Funds generated support essential mobility and accessibility equipment, such as wheelchairs, walkers, ramps and lifts, for kids with physical disabilities, as well as remote camp and fully accessible camp opportunities. Easter Seals is only able to provide its programs with the generous support of its donors and sponsors. For more information, visit EasterSeals.org.
